My Princess Garnet (Final Fantasy IX) costume from Anime Boston! Photo by the wonderful ~StephenTang!

Sooo... construction. I used a McCall pattern for a base on the dress, but I had to hack away at the skirt and I drafted the overskirt and gloves myself. My fabric was casa satin, the gloves are a stretch satin. Everything is serged! All of that embroidery was done by hand, including the fourteen fleur di lis on the skirt. The armbands are craft foam, my crown is Model Magic, and the necklace is a Swarovski crystal inside of a Model Magic dome with wires, Rub n Buff, hot glue, and all sorts of stuff. Under the dress I had a corset and a three boned hoopskirt (there is probably a technical term for that but I am not aware of it!)
